Theatre is the yardstick of civilization
Theatre is dialogue with the society
Death of Theatre means death of civilization
Anik is a theater organization in Kolkata, India. Anik started his journey on December 26, 1986. It was recognized as a registered organization by the Registrar of Firms and Societies of the Government of West Bengal on 3 March 1969. From then until today, till November 2020, we have been successfully producing plays for 32 years in Kolkata, different districts of West Bengal, different states of India and many cities of that country including Dhaka, the capital of Bangladesh. We have received the unconditional love of the theatre loving audience. Led by our founder, the late Amalesh Chakraborty, Anik not only produced its own plays, but also organized the Ganga Jamuna Natya Utsav to coordinate between the theater troupes of the country and Bangladesh. This festival has become popular as an international drama festival. This year is the 23rd year of that festival.
We have done residential workshops with indigenous boys and girls for four years. We have organized statewide drama competitions. We are organizing inter-school, inter-college and inter-university drama competitions with the students of schools, colleges and universities of West Bengal, which have been held for 18 consecutive years and thousands of students have already participated in this competition.
In addition, we are organizing seminars every year. Since 2016, we have started giving Amalesh Chakraborty Memorial Honors and Amalesh Chakraborty Memorial Lecture in memory of our founder Amalesh Chakraborty.
We stood by the unemployed workers for 6 consecutive months during Pandemic, with many of them associated with the drama. When the state was hit by cyclone Amphan. We rushed to many affected areas. I have taken some help for the endangered people. We have tried to provide meals to the hungry people on different railway platforms in the affected areas. Since we couldn't do theater on stage because the theater was closed, but we moved to the village, to the people in the city, to the real stage of life. That was the theater for us at that time. We want to take the drama work further in the coming days. We want friends with drama organizations. Besides, we must fulfill our social responsibilities. It is the responsibility of the group theater to take care of the society and Anik will be dedicated in that work.
